In today's episode of AIDL, we have a mystery to solve:  what happened to the guacamole J clearly remembers returning to the top shelf in the refrigerator?  A) spouse ate it. B) it was thrown away or C) J polished it off several days ago and the container has since been washed out and recycled.  Hint:  spouse does not eat guacamole, but A was still J's first choice, followed by B as a clear second choice.  Can you solve this mystery?
today in Dementia Land:  Jim “it sure is quiet in this restaurant.”.   me “You forgot your hearing aids “
In tonight's episode of Adventures in Dementia Land, I am hoping that someone can help me answer some questions after a puzzling conversation.   J shared tonight that he received a neighborhood watch email today stating that several bobcats have been spotted in the area and recommending that folks keep their small pets indoors.  He then said that he wanted me to "be careful" when I take the garbage out at night and to make sure that I let him know before heading outside.   Here are my questions:  1) What SMALL pet does J think I resemble?   2) Does he think that I head outside after dark with treats in my hand calling, "here, kitty, kitty"?  3) what could J possibly do to help in the unlikely event that a bobcat attacked me AND that he heard my screams?   I'm thinking that the flicking the front porch light off and on wouldn’t be much of a deterrent in that situation.   Any insights provided will be appreciated.
Tonight’s episode falls in the "you can’t make this stuff up" category. After insisting that his TV earphones were in the bedroom and me looking for them unsuccessfully a number of times, J decided he would just go find them himself.  And he did. Eventually.  He was sitting on them. Logic looks different here in Dementia Land.  In the last 48 hours, these are actual reasons that have been given for NOT taking pain medication even though experiencing significant pain.   1).  I don’t want to.  The moaning and whining don’t bother me.  2). If I take a pain pill, I won’t know when the pain stops.  3).  The pain pills were prescribed for my neck.  The pain is in my shoulder.  4). They don’t help (interpretation:  they don't work in 30 seconds or less and eradicate 100% of the pain).  And last, but certainly not least, 5) I don’t want to become addicted to them.
Living with a spouse with vascular dementia is an unpredictable challenge. I created this blog to share true stories from life in Dementia Land.   In this week's episode of Adventures in Dementia Land, which of the following did J NOT forget?   A) How to get from his recliner to the bedroom.  B) how to use the microwave   C) the day, time and location of this week's NASCAR race.    In today's episode of Adventures in Dementia Land, we have a pop quiz.  How many times did J fall asleep during dinner?   a) twice with the fork halfway to his mouth: b) once with a full glass of ice tea  in his raised hand; c) in the middle of wheeling his wheelchair away from the table; or d) all of the above.   Bonus question:  How did J express his appreciation for his wife waking him before an accident of some kind happened?  a) with many expressions of thanks and gratitude; b) with a simple but heartfelt thank you or c) by growling at her that ...
